The groundbreaking ceremony for the current Martin J. Whitman School of Management building took place April 30, 2003. Chancellor Kenneth Shaw, Dean George R. Burman, Bernard Kossar, Chairman of the Corporate Advisory Council, and Robert Clink ’03 BS were speakers on the occasion. Excerpts from Dean Burman’s remarks follow:

“...In breaking ground for the construction of our new building, we enter the final phase of the bold enterprise that has bonded us for the past decade. Through this symbolic act, we move ever closer to realizing the vision that has guided our efforts. It is a vision of excellence. A vision in which Syracuse University’s School of Management is positioned for leadership in the 21st century. While the building is but one of countless initiatives we have undertaken to achieve our vision, it is the capstone. It will be student-centered and state-of-the-art in every sense. It will expand not only our space but the capabilities and achievements of all who study and work here. It will be a platform for excellence, enhancing our competitiveness and our standing among our peers...”
