With his father, mother, oldest brother and sister-in-law as Syracuse University graduates, Eric Klein comes from a family of Orange faithful. He credits his decision to pursue accounting as one of his majors to his father’s influence. “My dad has mentored me throughout my life and helped me make smart decisions. His accounting degree has given him opportunities to work for amazing companies not as an accountant but in positions where his accounting background has helped him excel.”

One way Klein has enhanced his professional preparedness is by immersing himself in extracurricular opportunities. Through the Delta Sigma Pi business fraternity, he has established connections and learned lessons from accomplished professionals that will be invaluable in his career pursuits.

Klein appreciates the value of Whitman classes in helping prepare him for success in the business world. “Every class I take adds to my repertoire of skills. The courses in our Whitman majors and in other management disciplines will make us well-rounded employees,” Klein explained.

He advises others to take advantage of Whitman resources early on. “I wish I started sooner, but I am glad I learned about the excellent people in the Undergraduate Office and Career Center. Meeting with them is very helpful,” said Klein. He also encourages students to engage with faculty. “Your professors want you to succeed, so don’t be afraid to reach out to them.”

Klein plans to apply the guidance he received and skills he honed at Whitman after graduation. “I look forward to a rewarding career, but first I want to get my master’s of accounting and CPA designation. I am confident Whitman has helped prepare me to achieve these goals.”

Alison Kessler

Alison Kessler is the alumni publications and outreach manager at the Martin J. Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University. She has amassed more than 20 years of experience in integrated marketing communications in the corporate, agency, not-for-profit, higher education and government sectors. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism and mass communication and psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
