Sam Whitaker’s TJX Internship

This summer I have had the opportunity to participate in an internship with the TJX Companies, the largest off-price retailer in the country. Working as a buying intern, I’ve spent the last seven weeks learning about the business for which my department buys – bath rugs and kitchen accessories. I’ve been able to travel with the company and sit in on countless meetings with vendors, watching the purchasing process unfold and seeing it through until the merchandise is on the floor. I have learned an incredible amount, and continue to learn more each day. The company culture is ideal, filled with people who work hard to drive business, yet still remain casual and friendly. The company as a whole is an incredible place to work.

I was exposed to the opportunity through the Whitman School’s fall career fair, where I built a strong professional  relationship with the company. I networked with a few of their visiting talent acquisition specialists, and through dedication and desire, I interviewed and was fortunately offered the position shortly thereafter. This is truly a testament of the Whitman School’s ability to bring in top companies to recruit our students
