Honoring the Future of Business: Beta Gamma Sigma

Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) is the honor society for undergraduate and graduate scholars in business programs accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). Every year, the crème de la crème (top 10 per cent) of Whitman’s junior, senior and graduate classes are inducted into the society to recognize the students’ efforts and contribution to academic achievement.

Once inducted, BGS members are entitled to all the benefits the society provides and are expected to serve the future generations of students and academics according to the guidelines of the society. These include but are not limited to the uplifting of academic excellence amongst their peers and juniors. In tandem with their vision, the Whitman chapter of BGS spearheaded the opening of the Whitman Learning Center (WLC). The goal of WLC is to give all Whitman students the opportunity to get academic guidance and assistance with their coursework from BGS members who have demonstrated their outstanding academic excellence. Consequently, WLC gives BGS members a structured vehicle to give back to the Whitman community.

The BGS Society held two separate induction ceremonies for its undergraduate and graduate students this year. The Beta Gamma Sigma inductees join an expanding worldwide network of more than 700,000 outstanding business professionals who have earned recognition through lifetime membership in Beta Gamma Sigma. The honor society’s members have served in corporate, government, non-profit, educational, and other management positions at every level of responsibility and reside in all 50 U.S. states and more than 160 countries around the world.

Beta Gamma Sigma has established more than 500 collegiate chapters in all 50 U.S. states and 22 countries and territories at schools accredited by AACSB International. Additionally, 27 alumni chapters serve the needs of alumni members in major metropolitan areas from Houston to Hong Kong.
