“The most important skill that I have acquired from my time at Whitman is the inclination to ask questions and be curious. My intellectual curiosity has grown immensely during my time at Syracuse University and it has helped me stand out and gain more from my internship experiences. With my internship on a virtual platform this summer, I worked hard to learn as much as I could and maximize my experience, both of which led to building many great connections.”

“Out of everything that I have learned here at Syracuse University and Whitman, by far the most important lesson to me was learning to say ‘yes’ to every opportunity. From the moment I arrived, I’ve been presented with opportunities ranging from joining organizations or attending events on-campus to one-on-one chances to interact with the Orange alumni network working in the business world. Through these encounters, I was exposed to accounting as a career for the first time, ultimately leading me to confidently choose it as my intended profession.”

“When I first got to Syracuse, I was so scared of being far from home. I was nervous that I wouldn’t belong and that the winters would be too cold for a Florida girl like me. But from the moment I stepped into the Whitman School, I felt like the next four years would pass too fast —and they did. Over the past few years, I have learned to become more confident in myself and my abilities as a young professional. Now reflecting on my University experience, I can confidently say that I feel prepared and excited for all there is in my future.”

“When I walked through Whitman my first day, I never imagined what the next four years would bring. Whitman has become more than just a place to go for class; it has become my support system. I’ve made lasting relationships with classmates and faculty that have shaped me into the person I am today. I thank Whitman for helping me find my passions and confidence, as well as making a lasting impact on my life. The most significant way that Syracuse University has contributed to my growth is through the Whitman/Newhouse dual major program. I knew I was passionate about communications and business, and I was able to find a balance between the two for my career.”

“Whitman has allowed me to expand my horizons beyond the classroom through its many extracurricular opportunities. In addition to developing invaluable relationships and a vast network in day-to-day academic life, I was fortunate to participate in Whitman’s Semester in NYC Program. I had the opportunity to test my skills at an internship at Goldman Sachs. These opportunities wouldn’t have been possible without the support of faculty, staff and friends at Syracuse University, and I would not be where I am today without them.”

“As a transfer student, I was nervous starting at a new school. To make it easier, I got involved right away meeting people. By the end of my first year, I felt like I had found my place in the Whitman community. Through all of the extracurriculars, I gained professional experience and met amazing people who made my time truly memorable. I’m extremely grateful for Whitman. While I learned many of the essential skills of business and beyond, I’m also appreciative of the extracurricular activities. I’ve learned so much from those in the Orange community. I’ve been faced with new situations that taught me always to be prepared and ready to face the next challenges.”

“In high school, I never thought Whitman was within reach. By taking a leap of faith and embracing this new chapter in my life, I gained a family and a home. The friendships and mentors I’ve cultivated here will carry me into yet another new chapter. At Whitman, I’ve grown into the best version of myself. As a first-year student, I was timid and not confident in my professional skills. Through extracurricular activities and academic coaching, I knew that my opinions were valued. I have grown academically and professionally into someone sure of her own voice. This newfound confidence has allowed me to take on leadership positions and secure a position with Deloitte post-graduation.”

“Syracuse University was the first school I ever visited, and it instantly became my dream school. I knew that coming to Syracuse would open doors for me, but I didn’t realize just how many opportunities I would have. Whitman has shown me possible career paths and allowed me to explore my passions. Seeing all of the options I could pursue and the support I had pushed me to make the most of these opportunities. As I move forward in my career, I’m confident that I won’t be afraid to try new things or take on tough projects. Throughout my experience, I’ve gained a better understanding of my own goals and how to achieve them.”

“As a first-year student at Syracuse University, I had told myself I wanted to pursue a career in film production, but the reality was I had no clue what I wanted to do with my life. Over the following four years, I changed my major and career goals several times. But with the Whitman community’s support, I did so with a sense of purpose. Every conversation, workshop and exploration trip provided me with a better idea of what I was interested in and passionate about. I’m thankful that Whitman did not make me feel like I had to fit into some mold. Rather, I felt I was able to take charge of my own future.”

“Whitman quickly became my home away from home. I challenged myself to try everything and learn as much as possible, which led to opportunities to represent both Whitman and Syracuse University on a national stage. Whether it was the Beta Alpha Psi Regional Conference in Washington, D.C., the Enactus National Exposition in Missouri or the Deloitte National FanTAXtic Competition in Texas, I always returned a more well-rounded and confident individual. I formed friendships and found my passions. I thrived on the unexpected path, where each new connection has the potential to open my eyes to new experiences. I wouldn’t be who I am today without my life at Whitman.”
