M.S. in Marketing

When the pandemic hit, I was in my senior year getting a degree in writing, rhetoric and composition at the College of Arts & Science with a minor in marketing from Whitman. I knew the job market wasn’t great, but I had no intention of just sitting around. So, I took advantage of the 2020 Forever Orange Scholarship, which covered 50% of my tuition due to the pandemic, and returned to get a master’s degree in marketing at the Whitman School. It was unexpected, but it turned out to be a real opportunity, as it taught me specific business skills and practical tools like Google Analytics that I can bring with me into my career. What I really learned this past year, however, was perseverance and adaptability, because I refused to dwell on what might have been and focused on moving forward. I hope to use all I’ve learned to find a job in marketing, specifically branding, in the luxury goods industry. I’ve had several internships in this space that have helped me to see where I want to be. I lean more towards the creative side, but the business experience I’ve received at Whitman makes for a powerful combination. Before the pandemic, I was certain that I had to be in New York City, and I’m still not opposed to that, but this past year has made me open to working just about anywhere—or even remotely. When the right opportunity comes along, I am ready to pack up and go do it!
