Hello everyone! My name is Eliza Spencer and I’m a rising 2nd year MBA student concentrating in marketing. I’ve been asked to blog this summer about my internship and future plans, but first I’d like to tell you a bit more about myself.
I grew up in Vermont and went to the University at Buffalo where I majored in theatre and minored in music and Italian. After graduation I moved to NYC to work at Jager Di Paola Kemp Design (JDK), a strategic branding and design firm where I had interned during college. It was during my four years at JDK that I met some of the most creative people I’ve had the privilege to work with, and where I discovered that I wanted to learn more about marketing people and products and how to successfully run a business.
And that’s what brought me to Syracuse and the Whitman School of Management. Here the classes are small and you get to know your fellow classmates and professors, which is a nice feeling after living for so long in a huge city. I’ve been exposed to many cultures and have been able to participate in many activities, including Whitman Women in Business, Duke MBA Games, Toastmasters and Consulting Club. Each has provided the opportunity to practice leadership and collaborative team work that I use every day at my internship and in life.
This summer I have the honor of being a marketing intern for the Institute for Veterans and Military Families (IVMF) at Syracuse University. The IVMF conducts several entrepreneurial bootcamps for veterans and their families as part of their Three Pillar strategy of conducting Educational Programming, Actionable Research and Employment Programming. My first week has been filled with friendly, passionate people who have already taught me a lot about fast-paced work and managing the promotion of these needed initiatives.
That’s it for now, thanks for reading. Until next time!
