Whitman Women in Business brings attention to breast cancer awareness month

As October 2015 comes to a close, so does Breast Cancer Awareness month. One student group on campus made sure to recognize the cause. Whitman Women in Business raised funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc by hosting a table and selling cookies at the entrance of Whitman. Passerby were encouraged to purchase a cookie and help raise donation funds.

The club recently hosted their annual general body meeting feature guest speaker, Leisha Doherty, founder and owner of Her Heartbeat. She focused her talk on creating a work-life balance and keeping one’s self fit. Leisha shared her inspiring story of surviving various health setbacks, including two heart attacks, and how she wishes she had been preventative during her younger years with regards to her health. The takeaway was to make mental and physical health a priority.

Whitman Women in Business is a group of future leaders at Syracuse University’s Whitman School of Management; the group aims to engage the Syracuse community in a dialogue on women’s involvement in business and leadership. The organization seeks to foster students’ involvement in the Whitman and global business community and encourages the development of business leaders. In the past the group has organized events including EntreWoman, the art of female workforce workshop, Pi Day 5K among others.
