Brandon Renick 18’ has taken what he has learned from the competitive business curriculum in Syracuse University’s Martin J. Whitman School of Management to break into the entertainment industry.

This previous summer Renick work as an intern at Populus Brands, a branded entertainment company based out of North Hollywood, and at with KCRW, the National Public Radio station in Santa Monica. Through his internships, he gained experience in branded entertainment research, membership and merchandise sales, talent hospitality and content creation for social media.

“These internships taught me countless lessons about the media and entertainment industries, how to multitask, how to work efficiently with coworkers and how to interact effectively with superiors,” reflected Renick.

A few weeks ago, Renick was selected to participate in the Sundance Ignite Program. The program is for young professionals and filmmakers interested in gaining exposure to the Sundance Film Festival. During the program, he engaged with industry professionals and filmmakers alike. He attended film screenings, panels and roundtable discussions that informed his understanding of both the business and creative side of the film industry.

Renick feels his time in Whitman has given him the tools necessary to be a competitive force in the entertainment industry.

“My education at Whitman has been incredibly rewarding and has fostered both my personal and professional growth,” explained Renick.

After graduation Renick hopes to use his Syracuse degree to pursue a career in media and entertainment.

“I have always had a passion for music and film,” said Renick. “I feel like my passion and understanding of these topics along with my prior work experience puts me in a unique passion to succeed in the field.”
