Suho Han Joins the Whitman School as an Assistant Professor

Suho Han joined the faculty at Syracuse University‘s Martin J. Whitman School of Management as an assistant professor of entrepreneurship in August. He hopes to use the skills and knowledge he’s cultivated while extensively studying the subject to inspire future entrepreneurs.

Originally from Korea, Han fulfilled his military service in Korea between earning his bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Washington and acquiring a master’s degree from Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis. Before joining Whitman he completed his Ph.D. at The University of Texas at Austin. Han was inspired to enter academia to research and teach entrepreneurship by his parents and the people around him. His mother founded a small beverage venture and was a professor. His father and several of his friends also started companies.

Han’s research focuses on examining the internal dynamics within angel investor networks and how processes in these networks evolve over time. Han also explores how ventures are evaluated and funded in the context of diverse, voluntary organizations, as well as provides insight into organizational survival under varying degrees of internal disequilibrium. Other projects include examining how founding teams with family members establish trust with outside parties to acquire key resources.

“I have always been interested in how early-stage ventures overcome obstacles, such as a lack of resources, and grow to be successful,” explained Han.

According to Han, he wanted to work at the Whitman School because he believes in its future under the leadership of Dean Eugene Anderson. He is also committed to not only making a difference in the lives of his students but in contributing to the betterment of the Syracuse community. To Han, there is a wealth of opportunity awaiting him through his new position.

Arielle served as content marketing manager for the Whitman School from 2016 - 2019. In this role, she supported Whitman’s overall marketing strategy through content development on digital channels, including websites and social media. After receiving her B.A. from Syracuse University, she went on to earn her M.S. in public relations from Syracuse’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.
