Intern Company/Title: United Talent Agency – Summer Extern
Describe your position and some of your daily tasks?
Out of more than 5,000 applicants, 54 other students and I were selected to intern at United Talent Agency’s various offices. Due to COVID-19, however, the company opted to give us a learning experience (called an “externship”) instead. We were able to hear from company employees and clients three times a week. Speakers included employees at all levels including: C-suite, department heads, agents, coordinators, assistants, trainees and even clients.
How did you land your internship?
I applied for the internship program last October and went through several rounds of interviews over the following months.
What did you learn from your internship experience?
I learned about the company structure of United Talent Agency, the ways how departments function and collaborate, as well as more about the broader entertainment industry beyond music.
Has your experience changed your plans or career choice when you leave college?
This experience has certainly given me a firsthand look into agency work that will influence where I apply after graduation and has also reaffirmed that I am most passionate about work that involves direct interaction with clients.
How will your internship experience help you after graduation?
This experience allowed me to network with United Talent Agency employees, as well as a cohort of 54 brilliant, supportive individuals in my externship group that I am confident I will be in touch with the following graduation.
How has the Whitman School prepared you for your internship?
The Whitman School has given me the tools to analyze United Talent Agency’s operations from an organizational standpoint, which helped me throughout the externship program as I came to understand how different departments functioned in relation to each other and how the company has grown over the past few years.
What did you enjoy most about your experience?
I enjoyed the opportunity to speak to employees in my areas of interest one-on-one. I also enjoyed being in constant communication with a very thoughtful and communicative human resources team.
Do you have any advice to students who are looking for an internship?
You should lean into what you are passionate about wholeheartedly. Opportunities will open up when you are being authentic to what you really want to learn about.
