John Buhrmaster is a alumnus of the Whitman School of Management. After graduating with a degree in management information systems and marketing, he took a summer job as a teller at 1st National Bank of Scotia, fully intending on leaving town and taking a job selling computers at the end of the summer. Thirty years later, he is a fourth generation president of 1st National. He recently served as national chairman for the Independent Community Bankers of America. A passionate advocate for Community Banks, Buhrmaster has travelled the nation and world speaking on behalf of his industry, even testifying before congress on several occasions. Buhrmaster and his wife, Leslie (‘M86 Maxwell and Higher Ed), live in Scotia, NY, with their son, David. Their daughter, Amanda, is a sophomore at SU, and their daughter, Jennifer, is a fifth generation community banker.
