Editor’s Note: The following piece was originally published in the Spring 2015 edition of Whitman Magazine.

The WhitmanNYC Alumni Club recently launched the real estate breakfast speaker series. The goal of the program is to connect alumni in the real estate industry with networking and professional development opportunities in the New York City Orange County Community.

The first event, hosted by Mission Capital Advisors in November, featured 15 Whitman alumni who work in real estate investment, development and financing sectors, leading a lively discussion about current trends in the real estate debt and equity markets. The event was well received by attendees, and a follow-up event is in the works.

At the request of club members, the breakfast series will be extended to include an event focusing on the media and advertising industries. Plans are under way, and series organizers hope these industry-specific events will grow and continue to connect Whitman and Syracuse alumni for meaningful professional development opportunities.

New programs, such as the WhitmanNYC Alumni Club’s industry-specific breakfast events, are just one component of the overall value of membership in the WhitmanNYC Alumni Club. Members represent a diverse mix of alumni who have graduated over the course of decades–including Whitman’s most recent graduates–with wide-ranging backgrounds and professional experiences.

For dues-paying members, the club offers free admission to speaker series events, a listing in and access to the online membership directory, discounted admission and pre-registration to many club social events and the exclusive opportunity of participation in the mentorship program. Club leaders strive to keep dues reasonable while funding excellent programming in the Big Apple.

All alumni of Syracuse University in the Tri-State area are welcome to become members of the club and can certainly find value among the myriad of social and professional programming. Please encourage fellow Orange friends and colleagues to join.
