This month, we are pleased to introduce you to three Whitman alumni who brought their business sensibilities and entrepreneurial spirit to family businesses and a nonprofit start-up venture in India and Central America.
Hailing from a family with diverse businesses, Chandini D P ’09 MBA helps run Classic Group, an entrepreneurial venture started by her father which focuses on distribution of alcoholic beverages, modern trade outlets, property development and coffee estates, trading and retail. While working at Classic Group, Chandini’s passion for design led her to start Mondocrea branding and marketing firm in 2012, and her latest venture came in 2015 when she opened a boutique home resort called Golden Wood in the coffee estates of the Western Ghats of India. De Manos Con Amor, which means From Hands with Love, is a 501(c)(3) not for profit founded by Katherine Najera. De Manos Con Amor empowers women and girls in Central America to break the cycle of poverty. Katherine spent her childhood traveling to visit her mother’s home country of Honduras. Every time she visited she was shocked by the conditions in which people lived. The fact that she had so many opportunities while so many do not really impacted her. After earning an MBA at Whitman, Samir Pradhan ’91 MBA started his career in manufacturing operations and later decided to pursue opportunities with start-up and privately held companies. When the opportunity arose to lead a company his father had founded, Samir decided to take the step towards his entrepreneurial dream. He moved his family to India, where he is managing director of Samtec Tools & Accessories Pvt. Ltd.
