WISE Women’s Center Announces Two 10th Anniversary Events: On Friday, Oct. 14, The Little Black Dress Event will be a perfect opportunity to toast the WISE Women’s Business Center in celebrating 10 years of training and inspiring women entrepreneurs. The event will be held at SKY Armory (315 South Clinton Street, Syracuse, New York) from 7-11 p.m. The evening will include featured wines and craft cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, stations, desserts, live music and dancing. The cost is $85 per person and proceeds will benefit the Center. Another opportunity to celebrate will be Shattering the Glass: Celebrating 10 Years of the WISE Women’s Business Center, set for Monday, Oct. 17, at 10 a.m. at The Tech Garden (235 Harrison Street, Syracuse, NY). Can’t code, but looking for ways to break into a startup? The Whitman Alumni Club of New York may have the perfect event for you. Connie Wong, co-founder & COO of Planted, will share her founder story and discuss the roles, expectations, and tips for how to break into the startup world for the non-coder. Whether you’re a current student, recent grad or looking to make a change in your career, you’ll learn what to expect and how to stand out in pursuing a job at a startup. Syracuse University Launches New Professional Development Opportunity for Alumni: The Syracuse University Alumni Association has announced a new professional development series called The Orange Advantage. It’s about being able to tap into the powerful Orange network—anytime, anywhere. It’s about having access to career services for life. It’s about growing as a professional and having your alma mater help you along the way. The series is a partnership between the Office of Alumni Engagement and Career Services, in collaboration with alumni clubs across the country. The first workshop—”True Colors”—is an interactive session led by Career Services staff members that’s designed to help you learn about your interpersonal style, as well as different methods of communication. You’ll also learn about different career possibilities related to your own personal style. The workshop schedule is given below. Questions? The NYC Entrepreneurship Bootcamp: This one-day course will be held on November 5 at Syracuse University‘s Fisher Center in New York City. The program is designed for Syracuse University alumni who are thinking about starting a business or who have recently founded a company. The course is taught by faculty of Whitman’s Entrepreneurship and Emerging Enterprises (EEE) department, which is consistently ranked as one of the top entrepreneurship programs in the nation. Program details and registration information.

Executive Education Course Offerings: The Whitman School of Management provides executive education programming to help professionals gain the essential skills needed to compete in a complex and evolving marketplace. Alison Kessler

Alison Kessler is the alumni publications and outreach manager at the Martin J. Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University. She has amassed more than 20 years of experience in integrated marketing communications in the corporate, agency, not-for-profit, higher education and government sectors. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism and mass communication and psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
