November Message to Whitman Alumni

November Message to Whitman Alumni

The month of November gives us two special days on which to show our gratitude. Veterans Day and Thanksgiving Day remind us to take pause and recognize those deserving of appreciation.

Syracuse University hosted a moving Veterans Day tribute on Friday, November 11, with continued programming and events throughout the day. Whitman is fortunate to count many veterans and active duty military men and women as students and alumni, including this month’s Alumnus of the Week, Tim Stitt ’14, ’15 MS, a veteran of the US Navy whose service included two deployments, and current student Chloe Miliken (left), a US Army veteran. Miliken, who was awarded the Purple Heart, Combat Action Badge, Army Commendation Medal and three Army Achievement Medals for her service, was honored during the Syracuse University Men’s Basketball game vs. Cornell.

Pictured left, are graduates of Whitman’s Defense Comptrollership Program (DCP) who gathered with Whitman School staff for dinner in Germany. The Whitman School and the U.S. Army are proud of DCP, a 65-year partnership.

Service members and veterans greatly enrich the Whitman experience. We extend our deep appreciation to our own and to all of our nation’s veterans and those who currently serve our country.

Though we are grateful for you, our alumni, year round, Thanksgiving offers an opportunity to share our appreciation for all that you do to help make the Whitman experience exceptional for our students. On any given day, you can find Whitman alumni in the building guest lecturing, speaking to student clubs and organizations, attending advisory board meetings, interviewing students for positions within their firm or otherwise giving their time and perspective to help prepare students for success. Beyond the walls of Whitman and across the globe, alumni are mentoring students, critiquing resumes, attending networking events and making career connections for students.

The collective commitment of our alumni make the Orange bond strong. On Thanksgiving and every day, we are grateful for your continued engagement and dedication to Whitman’s next generation.

Go Orange!
