In April 2022, Michael B. Elmes, ’89 Ph.D., professor of business at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, was awarded the WPI Board of Trustees Chair’s Exemplary Faculty Award, which recognizes WPI faculty members who excel in all areas of faculty performance, including teaching, research and scholarship, and advising. Elmes has been a professor of organization studies at WPI Business School since 1990, and has published more than 50 papers, conference proceedings, and books on numerous topics related to organizations—as well as work-related to high-altitude mountaineering. He directs WPI’s Project Center in Wellington, New Zealand.


Barbara Hagen ’92, vice president, sales and marketing at ThriftBooks, shared her perspectives in the article “How to Create a Fantastic Retail Experience that Keeps Bringing Customers Back for More” published by Authority Magazine.

Mad Good Food begins its 3rd season on Tastemade with host Derrell Smith ’10 (iSchool), ’13 M.A. (NEW), of the Young Whitman Advisory Council, airing Thursdays at 7 pm ET. Smith also discusses his dedication to sharing nostalgic, soulful dishes on The Daily Blast Live.

Richard Hutchison ’18 MBA, a Technology Education teacher at William Byrd Middle School, was featured in the Vinton Messenger for bringing a business world experience to his eighth graders with a unit based on “Shark Tank.”


Robert B. Menschel ’51, H’91, Syracuse University Trustee and philanthropist, passed away on May 27, 2022, at the age of 92.

Timothy Sullivan ’88, ’92 MBA passed away on June 16, 2022.
