At 6’9” and 6’11”, my twin brother Dan and I have always stood out for our size. As kids, we were commonly referred to as the “Twin Towers.” This deep-rooted irony is especially difficult for us because on Tuesday, September 11, 2001, at age 11, we lost our father Andrew Friedman in the World Trade Center attacks.
After we lost our father, we were overwhelmed by the unwavering support and compassion we received from the community and several amazing charities, including Tuesday’s Children, a non-profit founded in the aftermath of 9/11 to help families and victims impacted by terrorism and trauma. Tuesday’s Children took care of my family and made sure there was stability in my life after my father’s tragic passing.
Offering support to the families affected by 9/11 was truly a “tall order” and we were determined to match the generosity from our community someday. We have embraced the challenge through TallOrder.com, a family owned and operated company with philanthropy at its core.
TallOrder.com was developed after my brother and I recognized a gap in the men’s fashion market. As taller men, we have always struggled to find fashionable, well-fitting clothing and accessories. In particular, dress socks always stretched, ripped and fit poorly. Socks that did fit were only found in white or black athletic styles and made it difficult for us to express our styles. We were inspired to give back to Tuesday’s Children by creating a fashion brand that offers trendy pieces for the underserved big and tall community.
TallOrder.com launched on September 18, 2017, with its first product line, “The Bim Collection.” This collection pays homage to our father, and the socks within the collection are named after his close group of childhood friends. From the name of the collection to the TallOrder.com logo, the brand has been carefully crafted to reflect the heart of our mission.
In addition and unlike traditional knitted socks, our socks are created with 3D printing technology on high-quality fabrics to ensure a soft, comfortable fit. The socks can accommodate slim to wide calves, feature a band at the top to prevent slipping and are breathable, durable and easy to maintain for long-lasting wear. Most importantly, we made sure to design the socks with bold patterns and vibrant colors so our fellow “Tall-Stars” could show off their larger-than-life personalities and step out in style.
Philanthropy will always remain at the heart of TallOrder.com, and ten percent of profits from the company will be donated to Tuesday’s Children. I’m thrilled to finally give back to such an outstanding organization and can’t wait for the future of TallOrder.com to unfold.
