Dear Whitman Alumni: September Message From Cindie Adams

CindieAdams_185x240Dear Whitman Alumni,

As I write this message, the fall semester is in full swing. Students and faculty are getting to know one another. Professors have established criteria for excellence and outlined how they’ll help students achieve those standards. Students are absorbing the morsels of knowledge imparted by faculty who have conducted market-relevant research and others who have amassed real-world business experience. The staff is working feverishly on logistics, paperwork and programming to ensure another great semester. And the leadership team is tackling issues of the day while simultaneously looking strategically to the future. It is a careful, yet sometimes chaotic, orchestration that makes Whitman the place you remember fondly and with gratitude.

Though we are just a few weeks into the school year, our ever-present alumni are already helping to enrich the student learning experience. We have just launched the 2016-2017 Whitman Alumni Mentorship Program through which more than 100 accomplished alumni will help shepherd students through choices of courses and careers. Alumni have visited campus both physically and via remote technology to speak to classes, to recruit prospective interns and employees, and to participate in networking events and mock interview exercises. Plans are underway for alumni to host students at their places of business and to provide consulting projects that translate to invaluable practical learning experiences. The engagement of alumni is exceedingly important and their commitment does not go unnoticed.

On Thursday, September 15, we will hold the Whitman Annual Awards Ceremony & Reception to honor four alumni for their service, generosity and dedication to Whitman as well as their significant professional accomplishments. I am pleased to announce the 2016 alumni award recipients:

With our 2nd Annual Orange Tank set for Friday, September 16, and the myriad of other events planned across campus throughout the weekend, Orange Central 2016 will certainly be a wonderful homecoming for thousands of SU alumni.
