When I was a Whitman student studying marketing and entrepreneurship, I had no idea where I wanted to end up after graduation. Luckily, because of the Marketing Exploration Trip organized by the career center, I was exposed to the television industry and fell in love. I networked with alumni already in the business and realized the path I wanted to take in my career.
While in Whitman, I was a very active student and if I can give advice to undergrads currently trying to find their way, it would be to get involved! Being a part of organizations, like the Whitman Student Government and Enactus, allowed me to build relationships with the deans of the school. Because of those relationships, I was able to contribute to future improvements. Those were some of my most valued times in Whitman, since I am able to watch those changes comes to life as a proud alumna.
Currently, through networking and staying connected, I can say with much excitement and accomplishment that I started working for Disney ABC Television Group in ABC Family as a marketing coordinator three weeks ago. I love it more and more everyday and am eager to continue growing in this company. Whitman definitely taught me how vital networking is, that follow up can help you get ahead of the game, to always ask questions, and to value teamwork. Now being in the “real world,” those lessons have played and will continue to play a huge role in my life.
